Oracle Going After Amazon in Iaas

“Amazon’s lead is over” said Larry Ellison, whom we considered a character in the business, but we still respect Jeff Bezos more when it comes to his vision and mission in cloud businesses these days.

“He doesn’t consider beating AWS in the infrastructure-as-a-service business the most critical factor in Oracle’s quest to succeed in cloud computing.”

Oracle’s most immediate goal is becoming the #1 company in cloud applications (SaaS), where Amazon doesn’t have a significant footprint, and where Oracle has a huge portfolio of applications. Oracle also sees SaaS as more profitable than the IaaS business.

不料,這老爺昨天居然在舊金山舉行的Oracle OpenWorld上,劈頭就說,Oracle第二代的data center IaaS問世了,所以 “Amazon’s lead is over”…..

They offer twice as many cores as Amazon Web Services (AWS), he said, and twice as much memory, four times the storage and 10 times the input-output capacity.

這個理由夠充分嗎?! 看來我們要開始花點時間摸摸看Oracle Cloud (IaaS)了。
