Is content really “king”?  Younger audience tends to watch less TV these days. They binge watch YouTube, 17 , and Games, things didn’t exist before.

愈年輕的世代,看傳統電視節目的時間愈少,他們關注的目光被拉往各式各樣從前根本不存在的 YouTube, 17, 手遊等等之內容。

然而,HBO Now 遲至 2014 年底才成立,而它在傳統電視中的收視占比,遠低於它在年輕人用得最多的手機、平板、筆電中之占比,毫無疑問。那麼,掌控極大量優質內容獨領風騷數十年的 HBO,真心還會覺得自家的內容是王嗎?

你的內容「非看不可」嗎?

你的內容再好,對消費者而言倘若不是「非看不可」,倘若在他們常用的裝置裡不存在,它就不是王。而現在大家「非看不可」的東西,有多少還在 HBO 裡?

我們假設你是一位古典音樂愛好者,齊瑪曼是你非常喜歡的一位鋼琴家。如果他和布商大廈合作新出一套貝多芬一到五號鋼琴協奏曲全集,照理來說,你會買。但他如果只出黑膠唱片版本,而你又沒有黑膠唱盤,你會買嗎?如果他只出Blu-ray的錄影版本,而你沒有藍光播放器,你會買嗎?如果他只出CD版而不提供數位下載或串流然後CD又賣完了,你會拼死拼活去eBay或Amazon找二手嗎?畢竟,反正不聽也不會死,貝一到貝五的版本MUZIK上隨隨便便就有十個八個,沒缺那麼大吧?
