Amazon to Buy Video Reformatter Elemental Technologies
Amazon.com Inc. is putting itself at the center of the Web video boom.

The Seattle retailer agreed to acquire Elemental Technologies Inc., which helps media companies convert video to be played on the Web and on mobile devices.

其實，即便在美國，你如果對於cable 公司（像 Comcast）已不抱有任何希望，而下定決心成為 Cord-cutter 「剪線族」時，你還是得有心理準備：一堆原來在電視上的頻道從此看不到了。

Amazon 清楚這個問題。雖然在它現在的視頻庫裡，包括在年費$99的吃到飽方案中或需單獨另租（搜尋 Netflix 一樣會發現有很多東西不包括在固定月費的吃到飽方案中，但線上視頻單獨另租的模式它目前還沒有）的主流電影或電視影集之數量早就多到你三輩子看不完，但不論如何，就是有人會想看體育台、地區新聞台、像 ABC/CBS 這種全國新聞網、 soap opera、脫口秀….. 等等，這些在 Amazon video 裡都沒有，就算加上我之前用的 Sling TV，涵蓋的範圍還是有限。

再加上，富有創意的 Aereo 在2014就被告到收攤。

剪線族究竟該何去何從?

Bezos 剛剛用五億美金買了 Elemental，這家已經幫一大堆傳統頻道主供數位轉檔和串流的”軍火”商，進 Amazon 的目地昭然若揭。

在這個戰場上 Amazon 會打贏 Netflix。這不是現在誰大誰小的問題，而是與視頻習習相關之生態系的佈建廣度和深度的問題。

在這裡透露一點提示：metadata, IMDB, embedded infomercials.
