Trade Slump Sends Tremors to Shipping Industry

2016 - 09 - 03

The bankruptcy of Hanjin, the biggest shipping firm in Korea, though may cause a rise of shipping cost in the short term, will not alter the fact that 30% more space on ships than cargo to fill it amid a world-wide trading slump.

What the collapse of South Korea’s Hanjin Shipping Co. won’t likely do is solve the shipping industry’s biggest problem: 30% more space on ships than cargo to fill it amid a world-wide trading slump.

The biggest initial hit could come to retailers in the U.S. and elsewhere waiting on goods for the holidays. Not knowing whether they would get paid, ports and handlers from South Korea to China, the U.S., Canada, Spain and elsewhere have refused to handle its cargo. That has stranded 45 ships at sea, according to the company, and more than half a million containers.

Federal Sentencing Guidelines and Sarbanes-Oxley Act

The Federal Sentencing Guidelines are U.S regulations related to internal controls. Sarbanes-Oxley Act is another commonly heard law.

The Basic Concept in IT Operations

Delta, the second largest airline in U.S, had a computer glitch on Wednesday, canceling 2000 flights and incurring huge losses.
